LinkedIn Workshop and Informational Interviews Recap

This Monday was the start of Pro”FRESH”ional week and you still have time to attend the events still happening till Friday the 27th. This year’s program has eight different sessions and 6 topics to choose from, first-year students are required to participate in these events for the First Year Career Awareness Program. Though only required to attend one event coming up on Thursday and Friday.

Monday’s event included a workshop focused on developing one’s LinkedIn profile. Asking questions like what is LinkedIn, how does it work, how can it benefit you? It was held at the Career Center for Development at 4:30 p.m. If you did not get the chance to attend, below is a mini recap:

LinkedIn is one of the largest professional platforms out there designed to help people around the world connect and further their career. It serves as an online resume, personal brand hub, and a major tool to help your career growth.

Additionally, it is vital to learn how to connect with others on campus ,faculty, and alumni, especially on LinkedIn. This event helps you gain communication skills, awareness, and additional guidance on what you may be interested in, and also helps you for future interviews or opportunities you may come across in your college career.


Funding Sources: Support Summer Internships Recap

Tuesday’s event was focused on learning about resources for summer internships and various program opportunities you wish to explore. If you were not able to attend, that is okay, but make sure to keep in touch with the other events coming up for Career Development.

The Hodson Fund is one of the funding opportunities that students on campus can apply to whether if you need housing assistance, internship funding, or abroad opportunities that may need additional funding dues. You can find additional information in the Funding Sources tab on our website.

This application is open now so make sure to apply for any funding opportunities you come across!


Summer Internships Info Session Recap

Wednesday at the Career Center featured two sessions tailored to help you with LinkedIn development and funding for summer internship opportunities.

LinkedIn Tips:

  • Highlight any research or thesis work throughout your college career
  • All experiences count especially relevant experience and coursework
  • Highlight data management skills or technology skills you may posses in your different experiences
  • Utilize your ABOUT section, as that is the first thing employers see if they look at your profile
  • Post about research presentations or any career opportunities that can be relevant to your profile

Transitioning from a High School to a College Resume & Career Management Sessions Recap

Transforming your resume is vital to apply to various internship and job opportunities you may be eyeing through college and once you graduate. If you were not able to attend this session, definitely schedule a resume appointment on Handshake to have some additional help.
