Building Career Readiness Through Community, Leadership, and Strengths

Career Peers is a tight-knit community of student leaders, mentors, interns, and emerging professionals who work together to support career development across campus. As members of Career Peers, students gain valuable leadership experience, build professional skills, develop meaningful relationships, and contribute to the mission of the Career Center.

The program serves up to 30+ students across five distinct groups. While each group has its own focus, all members participate in shared professional development experiences and learn together through the CliftonStrengths® framework, helping students identify, develop, and apply their unique talents in academic, professional, and leadership settings.

Through workshops, mentoring, project-based learning, campus engagement, and collaborative leadership experiences, Career Peers creates a supportive environment where students can grow both individually and as a team.

Career Ambassadors

Career Ambassadors serve as student leaders and representatives of the Career Center. They assist with Career Lab drop-in services (when offered), promote Career Center programs and events, contribute to social media initiatives, and help create a welcoming environment for fellow students. Ambassadors also play an important role in mentoring Career Apprentices and supporting the development of newer members of the Career Peers community.

Career Apprentices

Career Apprentices are students who are exploring leadership and career readiness through hands-on learning and mentorship. Apprentices shadow and work alongside Career Ambassadors, gaining experience with Career Center operations, student engagement, and peer leadership. This developmental pathway helps students build confidence, strengthen professional skills, and prepare for future leadership opportunities within the program.

Career Marketing, Communications, and Data Analytics Interns

Career Interns participate in semester-long experiential learning opportunities aligned with their interests and career goals. Internship projects may focus on areas such as:

  • Programming and event planning
  • Communications and outreach
  • Social media and marketing
  • Student engagement initiatives
  • Special Career Center projects

American Marketing Association (AMA)

The American Marketing Association (AMA) is a nationally recognized collegiate organization focused on professional development, leadership, marketing, and career exploration. As part of the Marketing Minor, Directed by Dr. Caroline Le Bon, the chapter works closely with the Career Center to provide meaningful experiences that help students prepare for internships, graduate school, and future careers. The chapter is advised by both Caroline Le Bon, PhD, and Georgina Bliss, Associate Director, Center for Career Development.

Students can become involved in areas such as:

  • Fundraising and Special Projects

AMA members participate in workshops, networking opportunities, leadership experiences, and regional or national conferences while developing skills that are valuable across all industries.

Omicron Delta Kappa Chapter, Alpha Psi Circle

Membership in the Alpha Psi Circle of ODK is a mark of significant achievement and impact.

ODK was founded at Washington and Lee University in 1914 to recognize and encourage superior leadership by persons of exemplary character in the areas of academics, athletics, service, journalism, and creative arts. Members of ODK display outstanding achievement in at least two of these areas. 

Washington College’s Alpha Psi Circle of ODK, established in 1937 from our previous Silver Pentagon Society, recognizes the college’s most outstanding staff, faculty, and student leaders.

Each year, the members of ODK select two winners of the Gold Pentagon Award, recognizing outstanding leadership and service to Washington College by a graduating senior, and by an alumnus, faculty member, or friend of the college. These Gold Pentagon Awards are announced as part of Commencement. 

The Career Center is pleased to host the ODK chapter and its student members. membership is extended at the beginning of the spring semester to students meet the criteria and standards requisite of the society.
