Pre-Law Advising & Program

The Pre-Law Program at Washington College helps you prepare for law school while pursuing any major that interests you. There is no single “best” pre-law major. In fact, students enter law school from a wide range of disciplines, including political science, philosophy, English, economics, environmental science, chemistry, engineering, art history, and many others.

Our pre-law advisors work one-on-one with students to:

• Build the reading, writing, critical thinking, and analytical skills needed for law school and the LSAT
• Explore legal careers and determine whether law school aligns with your goals
• Develop application strategies and review personal statements and other materials
• Connect students with relevant events, opportunities, and resources
• Guide law school selection and the application process

Because law school is a significant investment, we encourage students to explore the legal profession thoughtfully and understand the many career paths available with a law degree.

Students are also encouraged to engage deeply in research, leadership, service, and extracurricular activities. Experiences such as the Senior Capstone Experience (SCE), student organizations, and leadership roles help develop the skills that law schools value and can distinguish you as an applicant.

In addition to dedicated advising, Washington College offers coursework related to law across several disciplines, as well as opportunities through the Justice, Law, and Society minor and the Mock Trial Team.
