Internships at Washington College

Signature Internships are unique opportunities designated for a Washington College student. We partner with regional and national organizations through both the Career Center and our “signature centers” like the Starr center for example, to cultivate rich experiences that extend the classroom. These internships are offered in the summer, typically occur for 10 weeks (400 hours) from mid June to mid August and are supported by funding.  Examples of past Signature Internship experiences include (partial list): Smithsonian, Winterthur Gardens & Museum, Chadds Ford Historical Society, Delaware Community Foundation, Academy Art Museum, University of California, San Francisco Research Lab, Children’s Hospital (Wash., D.C.), National Archives, The Constitution Center, The Lewes Delaware Maritime Museum | Lightship Overfalls, The National Aquarium, Corbin Advisors, Stroud (water quality), and NOAA (National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration.

Featured Internships are a collaboration between a partner employer and the college to bring rich experiences offerings to our students. These are competitive opportunities.

Funding is available via an application process through 17 different sources. Students must meet deadlines, complete forms, and provide details about their secured internship to be eligible. This process deadline usually falls around April 15 and can chat.

Washington College is committed to providing students with “real-world” experiences that build their professional skills and knowledge while also connecting the dots with theories and principles learned in class. Internships are one method for students to discover a career path, expand and enrich their personal and professional networks, and learn more about what happens after they graduate.  Students also use internships as stepping stones to permanent work experiences and to support their thesis development.
