Summary:
The Failure Analysis Engineer will be a technical expert in the Product Engineering and Technology organization and throughout Powin. This position will be responsible for leading the assessment of issues or failures from many sources and interfacing with critical stakeholders such as Hardware, Software, Firmware, Project Success, Quality, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders as needed. TheFailure Analysis engineer will intake parts that experienced failures to conduct root cause analysis (RCA), diagnose issues, and work with appropriate internal stakeholders to communicate updates and execute corrective actions.
Job Details:
- Lead the RCA of field, design, and manufacturing failures
- Conduct RCA by replication symptoms through targeted, well designed experimentation
- Identify design or quality changes necessary to prevent future recurrence and communicate to appropriate teams
- Communicate findings and information to Service organizations and assist in creation of work instructions and procedures
- Share investigation plans, results, and proposed resolutions with customers in a clear and understandable manner
- Support cross-functional team training and knowledge exchange on tools and solutions
- Work independently to identify issues and quantify impact to business and customers
- Identify, validate and communicate implementable mitigations for urgent issues while working on the longer term solutions
- Identify and obtain failure samples to use to support investigations
- Propose and execute steps to investigate difficult, cross functional problems while under time pressure
- Assist critical safety or equipment damage investigations
- Travel as required to gain first-hand knowledge of field issues and communicate resolutions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, a similar field, or equivalent relevant experience
- 3+ years of technical experience with energy storage systems, power electronics, and/or SCADA
- Demonstrated experience with leading RCA’s for manufacturing or technology organizations
- Ability to independently manage projects within budget and timeline constraints
- Ability to work cross functionally, explain designs and concepts to others with different backgrounds/degrees
- Flexible with design iterations and changes in direction
- Solid analytical, and problem-solving skills and can work independently and manage the workload of multiple projects and tasks
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally verbally and in writing
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed to support international teams
- Occasional travel to support projects, with potential short notice
Experience with any of the following is a plus:
- Network protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP)
- Device protocols (Modbus/TCP, Modbus/RTU, DNP3, SCADA, Sunspec)
- Programming (C++, Python, SQL, LabVIEW, Matlab, other)

- Ability to monitor and manage work in variable weather conditions
