At The Washington Center (TWC), we understand that launching your career goes far beyond just landing an internship. The Academic Internship Program delivers a comprehensive experience designed to help you thrive in today’s rapidly-evolving job market.
Scholarships are still available for eligible students attending a Maryland institution for Summer 2026. Check out the eligibility requirements here.
Over the course of TWC’s Academic Internship Program, you’ll have the time and space to map out your path for life after graduation and gain the tools, network and experience to make it a reality.
Academic Internship Program Highlights
- Preparation & Internship Search: You’ll work with a career coach to identify your strengths and develop an internship strategy that matches your ambitions, ensuring you take the next best step in your professional path.
- Internship: Land an internship tailored to your professional interests.
- Around 70% of our internship partners offer some form of compensation, which can include stipends, hourly pay, or and/or transportation fare. Students are able to see what type of payment will be offered before they interview with the organization.
- Career Readiness Programming: Engage in professional development workshops and networking opportunities.
- Academic Course: Choose from a variety of different course options offered by TWC.

Housing & Living
While living in TWC’s furnished intern housing, you’ll be able to experience D.C. like a local. Even better, you’ll be part of a built-in community of fellow interns, making it easy to connect and explore the city together.
D.C. offers once-in-a-lifetime experiences you can’t find anywhere else. From networking on Capitol Hill to exploring world-class museums (for free!), this city puts you at the center of where things happen.

- D.C. Check-in Begins – Wednesday, May 27, 2026
- In-person Program Orientation – Friday, May 29, 2026
- Internships Begin – Monday, June 1, 2026
- Internships End – Friday, July 31, 2026
