EXTERNSHIP Program Overview & Application Instructions, January 2025
EXTERNSHIP Program Overview & Application Instructions
The Center for Career Development is excited to announce that we are sponsoring an Externship Program from January 6-10, 2025, and January 13-27, 2025, to coincide with our Winter Break.
Background
Our mission is to support college into career transitions by holistically preparing students for meaningful professional lives. Holistic preparation embodies guided self-awareness and personal discovery, experiential learning, leadership development and an understanding of the value of social capital. At Washington College, through The Center for Career Development, students are provided with the tools to support career readiness and empowered to demonstrate the values of a liberal arts education throughout their professional lives.
What is an Externship?
An externship is a short-term supplemental experience and sometimes referred to as a job shadowing experience. Like an internship, it provides an opportunity for students to get some experience exposure. These experiences are shorter in duration, offer students the opportunity to explore various job or career areas and to network with career professionals, and help students to make more informed decisions about the kinds of academic courses, internships, and careers they want to pursue.
Who is eligible to participate in the Externships?
First Years, sophomores, juniors, and seniors of all majors are eligible to participate in externships. Students are matched with hosts based upon the quality of application materials and their involvement with The Career Center of Career Development.
How long are externships, and what am I committing to?
The externship experiences vary in length but are typically 1-3 days. This is a short-term, observational experience.
