First-Year Seminars In-Class Modules, FY CAP & FY Lab Partnership

Support your first-year students by including these two modules in your seminar course. While the modules are designed to be embedded together, each can also be incorporated independently. The Focus2 Career Assessment Module serves as an early intervention tool that helps students become more aware of the wide range of professional opportunities available to them. Focus2 opens during FLOCK Days in June and remains available through August 31. The NACE Career Competencies and Career Readiness Module helps students connect their academic experiences with experiential learning opportunities while developing strong professional habits and transferable skills. Students are encouraged to reflect on and articulate their experiences both verbally and in writing, as well as begin a journal of examples and accomplishments that can later be used in resumes, interviews, networking conversations, and applications.

By intentionally connecting academic learning to career readiness, we empower students to articulate the value of their liberal arts education and build a purposeful plan for life after Washington College.

These in-class modules are part of a larger initiative to support students early in their four-year college experience and are intentionally aligned with the asynchronous FY CAP (Career Awareness Program) on Canvas and the Career Competencies Lab Partnership. Each program utilizes the framework and language of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), ensuring consistency, continuity, and reinforcement of career development concepts across campus.
